A well-known rock-musician, a leader of the band “Neuro Dubel” Alyaksandr Kullinkovich has supported the Day of Belarusian Solidarity. “The Day of Solidarity is a possibility to do something for ourselves. It is important not to overlook this day, to remember and… to have the heart [to take part in it]. When on the 16th day of every month at 8 p.m. I light a candle in the window, I am doing that in the first place for myself, to show myself that I am a human,” the musician said.

House Arrest’s Term For Mikalay Autukhovich Extended Till January 30

12 days have passed after a businessman from Vaukavysk Mikalay Autukhovich finished a hunger strike held first in the remand prison, and later in prison hospital. He is being nursed back to health. On December 28 measure of restraint was changed for house arrest. Its term was extended until January 30. The radio Svaboda has found out that his criminal case is to be considered by the court of Kastrychnitski district of Hrodna. However, the businessman has not started to get acquainted with the materials of the case concerning tax evasion on a large scale.

Pressure Applied On Private Universities’ Students As Well

The human rights center “Viasna” received a telephone call from a four-year student of law department of the Belarusian Institute of Legal Science (private educational institution). The student informed that a resource teacher of the dean’s office had come to students during an exam and warned that to get good marks they are to sign for A. Lukashenka. Besides, stickers demanding to bring a passport to the exams are found everywhere.

The Charter’97 press center has received a letter from students of mechanics and mathematics faculty of the Belarusian State University (BSU). “We confirm that the signatures in support of Lukashenka are collected at the faculties under coercion. It’s especially hard for the students who live in hostels. Deputy Dean Kursov through monitors of students’ groups “hints” that in case somebody had not signed for Lukashenka, they should hurry up. They are to make it in two or three days. Otherwise they would have problems with the hostel,” the letter reads.

Searches Held In Apartments Of Milinkevich Team Members In Baranavichy

On Friday evening Baranavichy police held a search in the apartment of the member of initiative group of the presidential hopeful of the united opposition forces Alyaksandr Milinkevich, Uladzimer Hundar. Office equipment was confiscated in connection with a criminal case initiated in 2000.

On January 6, on the eve of Orthodox Christmas, the leader of united democratic forces of Belarus, Alaksandar Milinkevich, visited Bialystock. He was invited by local Belarusian Orthodox community. During the visit, Milinkevich met with the Prime Minister of Poland Kazimierz Martynkiewicz.

On January 6 in Homel traffic policemen detained a private car of Mozyr dweller, a collector of signatures for Alyaksandr Milinkevich, Andrei Kara. Mr Kara was taken to the police department of Chyhunachny district. A traffic police lieutenant Chykezau confiscated 20,000 calendars for the year 2006 with the portrait of Alyaksandr Milinkevich and the words “Alyaksandr Milinkevich is the leader of the united democratic forces of Belarus”.

Police Confiscates Printed Editions from Telman Masliukou

At about 5 p.m. on 5 January the police confiscated printed editions from Telman Masliukou, chief editor of Rehianalnyia Naviny newspaper. Three policemen in plain clothes stopped him in the street. Two of them watched Masliukou and one overlapped the way on a car. The policemen examined his rucksack and found there printed editions. They took Masliukou to a police station and composed a confiscation report. The confiscation was ordered by vice-major Piatro Zykun, the report was composed by the major A. Tsimokhautsau and four more policemen calculated the confiscated editions. According to the report, they confiscated 297 copies of Rehianalnyia Naviny, 1289 postcards New Year – New Possibilities with congratulations from Aliaksandr Milinkevich, the candidate to the presidential election from the united democratic forces and three calendars with the inscription Love Belarus. Three more calendars Mr. Masliukou handed out to the present policemen and witnesses.

Belarusian Non-state Jurisprudence Institute Forces Students to Sign for Lukashenka

A student of the Belarusian Non-state Institute of Jurisprudence phoned to HRC Viasna and stated that during the exams a worker of the dean’s office came up to the students and warned they had to sign for registration of Lukashenka as a candidate to the election in order to have good marks. Besides, on the walls of the institute somebody stuck the posters ordering the students to come to the exams with their passports. The students also said that one of his friends was permitted to re-take an exam only on the condition that he would sign for registration of Lukashenka as a candidate to the presidential election, which he had to do.

In Navapolatsk Policeman Confiscated Certificate of Initiative Group Member

In the evening of 5 January, a policeman detained Siarhei Metsialiou, a member of the initiative group of Aliaksandr Kazulin, who collected signatures for registration of Kazulin as a candidate to the presidential election. Mr. Metsialiou went from one door to another and collected signatures in private flats in Vasileutsau Street, 6. Among the citizens of flat 6 there was a policeman from Navapolatsk City Board of Internal Affairs, who took away Metsialiou’s certificate of a member of the initiative group and returned it only in 50 minutes, after unknown manipulations with it. The same evening the member of the initiative group complained to Navapolatsk CBIA.

Alyaksandr Milinkevich to Visit France

Today on January 9 an official visit to France of the leader of the united democratic forces of Belarus Alyaksandr Milinkevich is to start. The visit of Alyaksandr Milinkevich to France is taking place on the invitation of French government. In Paris Alyaksandr Milinkevich is to hold negotiations with French Foreign Minster Philippe Douste-Blazy, and to meet with a number of well-known French politicians. It is expected that the leader of democratic forces of Belarus is to deliver a speech in French parliament.

Alexander Lukashenko met in Minsk today with the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Russian energy giant Gazprom Alexander Medvedev, Interfax-West reports. According to the info Lukashenko and Medvedev discussed the perspectives for cooperation between the Belarusian company BelTransGaz and Gazprom. An agreement was reached for joint work group for studying concrete projects that could be realized soon, the agency adds.

Algeria discusses huge deal with Belarus

Algeria has been discussing the prospect of a $1.5 billion arms deal with Belarus. Algeria`s Defense Ministry has been examining the purchase of the MiG-29 aircraft of Belarus. Algerian defense sources said Belarus has offered a lower price for the aircraft than that of Russia.
