As the Middle East Newsline agency informs, Algeria has been discussing the prospect of a $1.5 billion arms deal with Belarus. Algeria`s Defense Ministry has been examining the purchase of the MiG-29 aircraft of Belarus. Algerian defense sources said Belarus has offered a lower price for the aircraft than that of Russia.
The Middle East Newsline informs that Belarus Defense Minister Leanid Maltsau (Maltsev) held talks with Algerian defense and military commanders about different directions of military cooperation during a recent visit to the North African state.
“Belarus has offered everything. They are ready to train, provide expertise for weapons development and production and sell us a range of platforms,” told a source in the Algerian Defense Ministry to the agency.
The Radio Svaboda tried to confirm this information in the state agencies of Belarus, but officials were not available for comments.
