Belarusian Embassy in Moscow: Demands to Release Arrested 12:39, 17/01/2006
On January 16 in Moscow in front of the Belarusian Embassy a picket of solidarity with oppositional movements of Belarus. Participants of the picket paid the tribute to the memory of disappeared and murdered politicians and journalists of Belarus. Besides, the protesters demanded release of young people detained in Minsk on January 14 for an anti-presidential graffiti.
The picket was arranged by the movement “My”. At 7 p.m. in front of the Embassy about 50 people from the movements “My”, “Ya dumaju”, “Avtonomnoe dejstvie”. For about 10 minutes participants of the picket were holding candles and portraits of the repressed Belarusian politicians. Then several young activists started to chant “Freedom to Ninenko!”, “Freedom to Skopnitsev!” Policemen came up at a run to him and demanded to stop.
Five minutes later, streamers with slogans “Luka, it’s your new disgrace!”, and “Freedom to Misyuk, Pomaz, Boldygin, Ninenko, Malakhova, Andreev, Skubiev, Ershov, Skopintsev”. (They are 9 out of 12 detained for making an anti-presidential graffiti in Minsk. Names of three more persons are still unknown. It was possible to hold the streamer only for 1 minute. After that it was seized from the hands of the activists and torn by policemen. One protester was detained and placed to a police car.
