Young Front Mahilyou Branch Leader Detained 12:54, 24/01/2006
In Mahilyou at night on January 22 policemen detained the chairman of Mahilyou branch of the Young Front, an activist of the initiative group of Alyaksandr Milinkevich Syarzhuk Nahatsin. He was charged with insubordination to police when he was going to distribute stickers “They are lying”.
As the Radio Svaboda informs, the member of the Young Front was on the way home and had some stickers with him. The stickers “They are lying”, to his mind, reflect the true identity of the state-run media. It is noteworthy that a policeman was not paying attention to the passers-by, but when he noticed Syarzhuk Nahatsin, he ordered to show his ID.
The activist says that a policeman is constantly patrolling their district, and knows him well because often guards opposition rallies. When Mr Nahatsin reminded about that, he was charged with insubordination to police. A sergeant refused to show his credentials and started dragging the activist to a police department.
In the police department none of policemen answered to his request to show credentials. First policemen wanted to seize the stickers. But when the activist reminded them about the legal liability and they were returned. Policemen have not managed to prove that they saw the activist pasting the stickers to the wall.
In several hours, late at night, the activist was released.
