New Literature Institute Director calls to strengthen ideology
14:02, 25/01/2006

January 17, a new director was introduced to the personnel of the Institute of Literature of the Belarusian Academy of Science: 38-year old candidate of science, pro-rector of the Art Academy Valery Maksimovich took the position of 68-year old Uladzimer Hnilamiodau, former authority of the BSSR Communist Party Central Committee.

The words of Academician Piotar Nikitsenka (the curator for the social sciences section of the Academy) “men of letters and other ideological workers” became the frame for the personnel of the Institute during the “inauguration” of the new director. Getting acquainted with the personnel, the new director emphasized that the Institute is a state organization, thus it should be an ideological institution to certain extend.

Previously Maksimovich was the pro-rector maintaining social upbringing and ideology in the Art Academy. Before that he had worked at the Philology Department of Belarusian State University. But, according to Maksimovich’s former colleagues from the Philology Department, he was driven out from there. One of his “pearls” was the letter to the Administration of the President: Maksimovich blamed the Department of the Belarusian Literature of the XX century for including “nationalists” and “collaborators” to the educational program. The educational course was abolished and the author was promoted, “Nasha Niva” reports.
