Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus have decided to institute a number of prizes of the Russia-Belarus Union State to destinguish achievements in literature and the arts, Putin told a news conference.
"The prizes will be given to cultural personalities who contributed much to a growing rapprochement between our two nations, to the development of friendly relations between Russia and Belarus," he said.
"Forming a common humanitarian space is a key objective for Union State construction," Putin said.
"I`m sure construction of the Union State will not only reach quality new benchmarks in 2006, but it will also produce new practical solutions dramatically improving the life of our people," he said.
