President of European Parliament Advocated Democratic Elections in Belarus 16:14, 01/02/2006
“I underline that the European Parliament welcomes all initiatives that lead to real democracy in Belarus,” said European Parliament President Josep Borrell after the meeting with Alyaksandr Milinkevich.
“I assured Alyaksandr Milinkevich that the European Parliament will support all efforts for organizing democratic and transparent elections on March 19. In the European Parliament we direct our efforts to democratisation, promotion of legal norms and respect for human rights,” European Parliament President Josep Borrell said. “In the last resolution the European Parliament urges to create a high-level delegation, which is to visit Belarus to study and report on the situation regarding human rights in Belarus”.
“I underline that further relations between the EU and Belarus are to depend on democratization, reforms and access of the Belarusians to free and unbiased information, and besides on respect for national and religious minorities,” the President of the European Parliament said.
