Militia against distribution of “Narodnaya Volia” 11:24, 01/02/2006
January 31, militia officers tried to detain activists of the UCP Minsk municipal organization and MHSS-Young Democrats who were spreading the last issue of the newspaper “Narodnaya Volia” among passers-by at the underground station “Pushkinskaya”.
According to the UCP press-service, within the last three days similar actions have been held regularly. Militia had no claims then. But today pledging the order of the administration, militia officers demanded from the distributors to leave. The activists refused since they had committed no illegal actions - “Narodnaya Volia” has all necessary requisites, each issue has a seal “For advertising purposes”. Nevertheless, the militia officers called reinforcement.
The young activists left the underground crossing and moved to the “Orbita” hotel to distribute the newspaper. The action lasted more than an hour. About 1000 issues were spread.
