Russia to Abandon Its Radar Stations? 18:03, 01/02/2006
Russian Vice Prime Minister, Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov stated that Russia will ditch its radar stations built in Soviet times in other former Soviet republics in Soviet times as new missile attack warning stations are set up in Russia.
Ivanov, who visited a new missile warning station in Lekhtusi near St. Petersburg on Tuesday, did not give a timetable for the phase-out of the radar stations.
Russia has five radar stations in other former Soviet countries-- one in Kazakhstan, one in Azerbaijan, one in Belarus and two in Ukraine, Interfax informs.
