The single democratic presidential candidate Alyaksandr Milinkevich has lodged a complaint to Anatol Kulyashou, Minsk internal affairs department of Minsk executive committee, with a demand to inform about the whereabouts of his agent, the leader of the Belarusian Popular Front Party Vintsuk Vyachorka. Referring to an absolute illegality of Vyachorka’s detention, Milinkevich demands to release him immediately.

Duty policeman of the police department of Maskouski district of Minsk told to the Charter’97 press center that the leader of the Belarusian Popular Front Party Vintsuk Vyachorka, the agent of the democratic forces’ candidate Alyaksandr Milinkevich, had not been taken to the police department. The same was said by representatives of the city police department in Lubimau street, where the BPF party leader was detained. The press secretary of the Interior affairs department of Minsk city executive committee Aleh Slepchanka also told that he could not say where the electioneering agent of the presidential candidate is kept, and said that “he is sure to be found tomorrow”.

The whereabouts of the leader of the Belarusian Popular Front Party Vintsuk Vyachorka, an electioneering agent of the democratic forces candidate Alyaksandr Milinkevich, is still unknown. The politician has been detained today in the district Paudnyovy Zakhad (“Southern West”) after the meeting of the single candidate with voters. He was seized together with a microbus with sound-amplifying equipment. The mobile phone of the politician is switched off. The activist of Alyaksandr Milinkevich’s headquarters have informed to the Charter’97 press center that it had been possible to reach him on the phone some time earlier. The leader of the BPF party lifted the receiver, but said nothing. However, the sound of beating was heard at that moment. The yells were heard: “An agent?! Face to the ground!”

The vestiges of the common sense and decorum y carrying out elections campaign are trampled underfoot. I think that the authorities have gone mad with fear, as they have no popular support. Alyaksandr Milinkevich’s agents will go to regions of Belarus on a stump. The democratic forces’ single candidate for presidency Alyaksandr Milinkevich met with voters of Minsk today. The meeting was held in front of cinema “Byarestse”. A thousand and a half of Minsk dwellers gathered to meet with Milinekvich. People had portraits of the single candidate with them. They were chanting: “Milinkevich!”, “Ling live Belarus!”, “Freedom!” After the meeting policemen detained a microbus with amplifying equipment. At that moment Vintsuk Vyachorka, the leader of the Belarusian Popular Front Party, an electioneering agent of the democratic candidate, was in the car.

US Congress to Consider Resolution on Belarus

The draft resolution expresses support to the aspiration of the people of Belarus to bring democracy, rule of law and respect to human rights to the country.
