Dear friends!
For several months in a row all over the world Days of Solidarity with political prisoners, disappeared oppositionists, their families, and independent journalists, with all who fight for freedom and democracy in Belarus are held. On the 16th day of every month hundreds of thousands of Belarusian citizens and our friends in other countries are lighting candles of Freedom in their windows, went into the streets and squares of their cities, held pickets, meetings and concerts of Solidarity, took part in prayer services for a free Belarus. We are grateful to all those who had taken part in the Days of Belarusian Solidarity.
On March 19 presidential elections are to take place in Belarus. Everybody understands that they would not be free or fair. But the situation in the country in changing with every day: people are tired with a dictatorship, they have seen a real alternative to Lukashenka and they want changes. We know how courage and solidarity of nations had triumphed over cruel tyrannies, how regimes that seemed unshakable, were crushed in one moment, facing the power of Truth.
March 19 is the day that can change a lot in the fate of Belarus. It is the day of our hope. And we have power to make it a day of our common Victory. That is why we, initiators of the Solidarity campaign, appeal to you to hold the Day of Solidarity not on 16th, but on March 19th, 2006. We call upon all the citizens of Belarus to show solidarity at polling stations, and to cast a vote for the New President of the country. We also support the idea to meet the results of voting together at October Square in Minsk on March 19, at 8 p.m., as is common in all democratic countries.
