The oldest Belarusian independent edition “BDG. Dielovaya Gazieta” to cease publication 23:29, 22/03/2006
Publisher and editor-in-chief of the independent newspaper “BDG. Dielovaya Gazieta” Piotar Martsau resolved to halt the publication of the newspaper “until the working conditions are defined”, as he said in an interview to BelaPAN.
According to Mr. Martsau, the halt of the edition’s publication is stipulated by uncertainty of the situation - problems with the printing-house, importation of the newspaper to Belarus and its distribution. “As you know, sine 2003 we have been printing the newspaper in Smolensk. We cannot distribute the newspaper on subscription. Last autumn we faced obstacles caused by the powers when spreading the edition independently through public distributors. The Smolensk publishing house refused to print the next issue of “BDG. Dielovaya Gazieta”,” - P.Martsau said.
He added that problems had occurred when importing the edition to Belarus, March 21. “Even though we have managed to settle this problem, they let us know we were to meet more obstacles,” - Mr. Martsau emphasized.
