Kozulin`s team to petition Supreme Court to invalidate election results
21:50, 28/03/2006

The team of Aleksandr Kozulin plans to petition the Supreme Court to invalidate the results of the March 14-19 presidential election over multiple irregularities. The text of the complaint has already been prepared and has yet to be signed by Dr. Kozulin, Mecheslav Grib, the presidential candidate`s campaign manager, told BelaPAN. "The lawyer will give him the text during a visit to the detention center in Zhodino on March 29. That means that the complaint will be sent to the Supreme Court either on March 29 or March 30," he said.

The team of the de facto leader of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party "Hramada" (BSDP) does not intend to file a joint complaint together with the camp of the other opposition candidate, Aleksandr Milinkevich. "We filed a complaint with the central election commission about irregularities in the election. Mr. Milinkevich`s team filed a similar complaint. Our complaint was accepted while theirs was not considered. I believe it will be more efficient to file two separate complaints with the Supreme Court," Mr. Grib said.

The BSDP also has started a campaign to collect signatures to an appeal urging Prosecutor General Pyotr Miklashevich to order Dr. Kozulin`s release. In addition, the party has applied to the Minsk city authorities for permission to hold rallies in support of the politician held in custody after last week`s demonstration in the Belarusian capital that was broken by riot police.
