Judge Was Beseeched on Knees to Reverse a Sentence to Maryja Dzevina 19:14, 28/03/2006
On March 27 Maryja Dzevina was sentenced to 10 days of arrest for participation in peaceful demonstrations against fraudulent results of the presidential vote. He relatives could not find out for a long time, in which court she would be tried. Then they were told that the case of Maryja Dzevina would be considered in the court of Leninski district of Minsk. However, while Maryja’s sister was waiting for her in the court of Leninski district, she was up in court of Kastrychnitski district.
The girl ran to the deputy chairman of the court of Kastrychnitski district, Alla Bulosh, and implored her to annul the sentence to her sister. She was crying and telling that their mother has just been discharged from the hospital after a heart attack. A girl was standing on her knees asking the judge not to sentence Maryja for so many days of detention: mother’s heart could fail in case she would learn that her daughter had been imprisoned.
It is possible that the judge could not annul the verdict, but at least she could have treated the girl in a human way. Instead of that the judge shouted, demanded to leave her alone, and after that put the girl out of doors…
This story was told by human rights activists who were present in the court of Kastrychnitski district of Minsk.
