Aleksandr Lukashenko, by his presidential edict, has authorized a draft interstate agreement on the organization of air service between Belarus and Cuba, which is to be discussed with Havana. The agreement is aimed at creating a legal basis for regular air service between the two countries, the Belarusian leader’s press office reported.
The accord would entitle air carriers to operate flights via the territories of the two states with and without landing for commercial and non-commercial purposes if they were granted appropriate permits.
The draft agreement specifies grounds for annulling, restricting of suspending the validity of such permits, cases of exemption from customs duty, taxes and charges, the principles of operation of agreed lines, the procedure of setting rates on agreed lines, and the principles of the flight safety system.
Vadim Melnikov, chairman of the State Aviation Committee, has been assigned to negotiate with the Cuban authorities about the draft agreement.
The accord would contribute to the development of economic cooperation between the national airlines of Belarus and Cuba, the press office said.
