Opposition Activist in Mahilyou Arrested For 10 Days 18:31, 25/04/2006

A deputy chairman of Mahilyou branch of the Belarusian Popular Front Party, a former prisoner of detention centre in Akrestsin Street Zmitser Salauyou was detained by policemen last Friday, the Radio Svaboda informs. According to the report, he allegedly used dirty language in a bank center, was throwing arms about and disobeyed orders of police. For two days Zmitser Salauyou had spent two days in the remand prison. He announced a hunger strike of protest. Human rights activists link arrest of Salauyou with the Charnobylski Shliakh protesr march planned on April 26. It is obvious that the authorities are going to intern the most active oppositionists before the protest.

Ihar Rynkevich, a lawyer of the former candidate for presidency Alyaksandr Kazulin is charged with hooliganism. The defendant of Kazulin is to appear in the court of Maskouski district of Minsk on April 26 at 10 a.m. the Charter’97 press center was informed about that by the press secretary of Alyaksandr Kazulin, Nina Shydlouskaya.

On April 20 the head of Pinsk city headquarters of the single opposition candidate Alyaksei Ramanovich was detained in Pinsk (Brest region). On April 21 charged with petty hooliganism (foul language) he was sentenced to 7 days of administrative arrest. “Thus, the authorities continue the practice of using preventive measures against civil activists before the Charnobylski Shliakh,” the human rights activist and lawyer Uladzimir Labkovich said.

On April 12 activists of the Belarusian Popular Front Party, students of the faculty of history of the Belarusian State University Yauhen Nyatkachau and Stsyapan Svidzerski were warned by the administration of the university by a possibility of expulsion. The guys were detained in a tent camp and sentenced to 15 days of arrest. A student of the fifth year Natallya Linitskaya, who had served a sentence of 10 days for defence of a tent camp, was told in the dean’s office that she would be given a workplace in a village, and not in Minsk, “Nasha Niva” (www.nn.by) informs.

Alyaksei Kazulin, a nephew of the former candidate for presidency Alyaksandr Kazulin, was fired from his job as a warden right after he was released after a 10-day arrest. Another nephew of Alyaksandr Kazulin, Alyaksandr, who is a five-year student of the law department of the Belarusian State University, will be sent to work in Chernobyl-affected Khojniki or Bragin.

Yesterday evening, when the leader of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka was in Vilnius and took part in the session of the round table on Belarus, policemen visited his apartment. Policemen presented a court writ issued by the judge of Savetski district Relyava. On April 25 at 4 p.m. Anatol Lyabedzka is to be taken to the court forcibly. They told that the UCP leader was absent at the court session on April 24. However Lyabedzka or his family had not received a writ about that session of the court.

Yesterday evening activists of the movement of Belarusian solidarity “Razam!” (“Together!”) set up a symbolic tent on October Square in Minsk. Exactly a month ago special police forces disbanded a tent camp where hundreds of Belarusian citizens stayed to protest against repressions and fraud in the election campaign. It is symbolic that the tent was a part of the tent camp, and after its liquidation was returned to the activists of the movement “Razam!” by workers of community services. Former prisoners of Akrestsin Street detention center have written “Nobody would stop us!”, “Movement “Razam!”, “It should be this way” on the tent.
