Valeria Novodvorskaya: “I hope Putin Would Meet Lukashenka At Walks in Hague Prison” 17:27, 28/04/2006
Today in St. Petersburg the meeting of Russian president Vladimir Putin and Belarusian dictator Alyaksandr Lukashenka is to take place. The comment of the leader of the Russian party “Democraticheskiy Soyuz” (Democratic Union) Valeria Novodvorskaya was the following:
“Most of all we are indignant at and upset by the reaction of the Russian authorities. Vladimir Putin and his lackeys from the State Duma and government are becoming a laughing stock of the whole world, their descending to congratulating a ridiculous, operetta tyrant, who had held a farce instead of democratic elections. Each one who is Lukashenka’s ally and follows his course, stands in jeopardy of ending in the same way: in the complete isolation from the civilized world. V. Putin has chosen a landmark for himself. We cannot but hope that Russian citizens would be able to capable of some orange or velvet variant of civil disobedience and would give Putin a possibility to meet with Lukashenka at walks in the Hague prison. Until that time we demand the Russian authorities to express the support to the Belarusian dictator only in their own name. We haven’t empowered them for that,” Valeria Novodvorskaya said.
