Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed a hope that after presidential elections in Belarus ended, “emotions would subside and a constructive work would start aimed at the development of the state”. “It is very pleasant to see you after election fights in Belarus finished,” Putin greeted Lukashenka during the meeting in St. Petersburg.
“I hope after emotions subsided, all who have taken part in the campaign, everybody who had taken part in the campaign would focus on the development of the state, on positive work in this direction,” Russian president said. “I am sure that all those plans draft previously on building special ally relations would be realized,” he added.
V. Putin has asked A Lukashenka whether it would be possible “to unite political forces around major problems of the country”. A. Lukashenka answered that “it’s not a problem for Belarus”.
As we have informed, many opposition activists were arrested for participation in the peaceful opposition rally the Path of Chernobyl on April 26. Among them is the leader of the Belarusian opposition Alyaksandr Milinkevich, leaders of the democratic parties Syarhei Kalyakin, Vintsuk Vyachorka and Alyaksandr Bukhvostau, the leader of the Young Front Zmitser Dashkevich. On April 26 KGB officers seized and thrashed the leader of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka. The former presidential candidate Alyaksandr Kazulin is in the remand prison for a month already. On May 4 trial over Mikita Sasim and Artur Finkevich is to take place. The list of political prisoners is growing and consists of dozens of names.
