10 Youth Activists Arrested Near Akrestsin Prison 13:18, 12/05/2006
Policemen of the special task detachment (former SWAT) have arrested 10 youth activists, who had come to prison together with many other people to meet the leader of the democratic forces Alyaksandr Milinkevich.
The leader of the democratic forces was released a few hours earlier, at 8 a.m. he came to the detention center again to meet with his supporters. He expressed gratitude to his supporters.
“Fight for freedom continues. Prison cannot stop a free man,” Alyaksandr Milinkevich said.
Policemen ousted people from the territory near the prison, and they stood in a park nearby. . Policemen warned people via a voice amplifier that “the rally is unsanctioned”.
When the crowd started to break up, policemen started to detain people. About 10 persons were seized at a bus stop near the prison.
