Anatol Lyabedzka Received in Office of US Vice President 15:12, 19/05/2006
On May 18 in Washington the leader of the United Civil Party of Belarus Anatol Lyabedzka and a deputy chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front Alyaksei Yanukevich a meeting in the office of US Vice President Dick Cheney and National Security Advisors on Security and European region was held.
“Much attention was given to the upcoming summit in St. Petersburg and possible discussion of the question of Belarus there,” Anatol Lyabedzka said to the UCP press service. “Once again we have emphasized that the key to the Belarusian problem is in Belarus, and not in Washington, Brussels or Moscow. We have also discussed the situation in Belarus. Besides, we stated that Belarusian-American relations have vast prospects. But it is not used because of the policy of self-isolation of Belarus pursued by Lukashenka’s regime”.
It is known that at a conference “Common Vision of Common Neighbourhood” in Vilnius the leader of the UCP gave a symbolic present to the Voce President of the United States Dick Cheney a symbolic present, a mug from a special detention center in Akrestsin Street, where he served a sentence during the presidential campaign. “In Cheney’s office his advisor on national security in exchange of the mug presented me a glass with an emblem of the Vice President of the US,” Anatol Lyabedzka said.
