8th anniversary of Asian Federation against Disappearances 15:03, 08/06/2006
Asian Federation against Disappearances (AFAD) celebrates its 8th anniversary. The Belarusian civil initiative “We remember”, that unites the families of the people missed in Belarus, congratulated the AFAD in a letter, emphasizing the AFAD’s achievements in the scope of the rights of missed people and their families. Moreover, the Belarusian organization expressed solidarity with the Federation members’ struggle for the truth.
The AFAD unites relatives of people missed in China, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Pakistan, Sri-Lanka, Thailand. During all this time, the AFAD has managed to consolidate efforts of numerous organizations all over the world that fight for the rights of the missed people and members of their families, and to target these efforts at the common goal - justice restoration. In particular, the AFAD held a range of meeting with UNO representatives and organized special training-programmes on lobbying the project of the UNO Convention on protection of all people from forced disappearance. And due to these initiatives, the debates on adoption of this document are to take place at the First Session of the UNO Human Rights Council, in June 2006.
