USA scrutinize trial of “Partnership” activists 17:16, 01/08/2006
Today acting US Ambassador to Belarus Jonathan Moor has come to the building of the Minsk Central district court where the legal proceedings of “Partnership” activists are being held. He said he had come to see it with his own eyes, to get acquainted with the people who are concerned with the trial, and to express support for the families of the accused.
As the diplomat said, the Embassies of the USA and EU scrutinize the trial. “We will keep on observing these legal proceedings and rendering support for the families of the accused,”- J.Moor emphasized.
The American diplomat was extremely disappointed to learn that neither journalists nor diplomats were allowed to the court hall. “It seems to us there are no legal basis for this process to be a closed one,” - J.Moor said. The fair court is held open all over the world, as he emphasized. And in this case the open trial is vital not only for diplomats, but also for the families that want to know what is going on with their accused relatives.
J.Moor pointed out once again that the US Embassy and diplomatic missions of other countries would observe the trial to be able to draw their own conclusions.
