Justice Ministry Wants to Know All Names of Oppositional Communists 12:33, 02/08/2006
Justice Ministry of Belarus has demanded the Party of Communists Belarus (PCB) to provide personal data about the number of party structures in a week. However, leadership of the oppositional Communists refuses to provide this information, referring to the law “On Political Parties”.
“It is stated in the law that we are to provide only information about the number of branches and about leadership. As for information about all members of the party, we are not required to give it and we would not. We have no doubts that this information would by used by the Justice Ministry for exerting pressure on our activists,” “Telegraf” quotes the words of the Secretary of the Central committee pf the PCB Valery Ukhnalev to “Belorusskij Partizan”.
According to the politician, the authorities are trying to liquidate the party of oppositional Communists. The PCB expects the Justice Ministry’s to lodge an action to the Supreme Court of Belarus. In this way the Belarusian Labour party was closed in 2004.
