Who Threw Ekaterina Sadovskaya into Soul Asylum? 14:52, 02/08/2006
Last week KGB officers detained Ekaterina Sadovskaya and later placed her into the republican mental health clinic Navinki. She represented Pskov regional social movement “Veche” engaged in human rights activities. In 2001 Sadovskaya was a leader of an initiative group of a former presidential candidate Nikalay Mekeka, “Narodnaya Volya” writes.
Ekaterina Sadovskaya is one of those human rights activists, who do not want to gain some social standing for them, but actually help people. She worked in the International Association “Human Rights Defence” for a long time, but when that structure stopped its activities in Belarus, E. Sadovskaya started to help people on behalf of the organization “Veche”.
One could definitely say that the human rights watchdog has wrecked bureaucrats’ nerves, who ignored human rights. And it’s worth mentioning that E. Sadovskaya defended not only Belarusian citizens, but foreign citizens who underwent persecution in Belarus as well.
As Ekaterina’s husband Viktor told to the Narodnaya Volya, on Tuesday two women and a man came to their house. A man showed a document of a KGB officer and asked Ekaterina to follow him, saying that she would return quickly. However, the human rights activist hasn’t returned home. Only on the next day it was informed that she was admitted into a mental health clinic. As said by V. Sadovsky, the reason for placing his wife into the hospital were her activities.
