Mahilyou Human Rights Activists Complain About Police Actions 13:07, 03/08/2006
A collective complain about illegal actions of the police has been submitted by five Mahilyou dwellers to the head of the regional internal affairs department and the regional prosecutor on August 2. The report contains a description of a groundless arrest of those citizens on July 27 in the evening by a police patrol, and their forcible taking into a police department.
The citizens report that they had not violated the law and public order. As it turned out later, in the police department, policemen were displeased with T-shirts with a new emblem of the United Civil Party (which is officially authorized), some of the detainees had on, and white-red-white balloons that where in their hands. For a few hours the detainees were questioned about their intentions that evening and about the meaning of the words “Fed up with him!” at some of their T-shirts. But in contravention to the law on police, the detainees were not explained their rights and not told what they were suspected of, and on what grounds their documents checked.
The authors of the complaint also warn the addressees of the letter that in case no concrete measures would be taken against those guilty of violation of civil rights, they would go to court, www.belngo.info reports.
