More than 600 persons have applied to the committee for protection of the repressed already

Three months ago the committed for protection of the repressed Solidarity was established. According to the committee’s public report of 31 July, the number of persons who have already applied to it is 678. We should remind that the committee was established by a number of well-known Belarusian human rights activists and public activists in order to support those who were repressed for publicly expressing their views and started working on 5 April.

372 applicants are students, 122 – unemployed, 41 specialists who need postgraduate courses, 17 persons who need traineeships in their speciality and 126 persons who need medical rehabilitation and material support.

According to the committee, on 1 June 233 students who were sent down from higher educational establishments, school-leavers and children of the repressed opposition activists started their studies within the framework of Kastus Kalinouski Program in Poland.

There have also been prepared the proposals for continuation of the education of postgraduates in Czech (12 persons), Germany (10), Estonia (7), Norway (3), France (2) and the Ukraine (17). The proposal for the Romanian government is being prepared, as well as the list of the persons who need temporary employment in a building company in Poland.

The public organizations of Czech and Poland have agreed to accept for traineeship 10 and 20 persons respectively.

During the three months 12 repressed persons received support at the expense of the materials means that were issued by representatives of different confessions. Members of protestant community give support to 25 families of the repressed that are in a hard financial situation. There’s also a preliminary agreement with the Ukrainian Embassy that 10 places in health centers be issued for medical rehabilitation of the repressed.
