Talks Failed: Hunger Striker Denied Medical Aid 18:48, 03/08/2006
Negotiations between Brest authorities and participants of the hunger strike are open-ended. Today the deputy chairman of the regional executive committee Milkhail Yukhimuk has visited the apartment of entrepreneur Liubou Razanovich. After a conversation the hunger striker told that he denies medical aid.
The Radio Svaboda quotes the conversation of the deputy chairman of the regional executive committee with the protester.
Entrepreneur: We would not pay. We have no money.
Yukhimuk: There was need to come for me. I wasn’t asked to come and talk with you.
Razanovich: I will die of hunger.
Liubou Razanovich denies medical help. For the third day she takes in no liquids. She went on hunger strike on July 5.
The deputy chairman of the regional executive committee Mikhail Yukhimchuk does not comment the situation.
The termless hunger strike started in Brest on July 5. Now 15 hunger strikers take part in it. They are owners of taxi cars, their relatives, drivers and two vendors from a Brest market, who joined the protest. They demand to overturn the ruling of tax agencies. Hunger strikers refuse to pay the fee for using means of transportation in business activities paid by owners of cars imported to Belarus before 2004. The republican tax was imposed by a presidential decree in 2004, and the owners of taxi cars had imported cars in Belarus much earlier.
