After the investigation of the criminal case against a Latvian diplomat in Belarus Reimo Smits information about that would be sent to the Latvian side, Interfax was told by the Internal Affairs department of Minsk city executive committee on Friday. The investigation department specified that the criminal action against R. Smits is at the stage of investigation’s beginning”.

As said by interlocutors of the news agency, “at present the investigation of the criminal case brought up against the Latvian diplomat on suspicion of pornography distribution is carried out by the agency of inquiry of Internal Affairs department of Minsk City Executive Committee”. “In line with the Code of penal procedure, the preliminary investigation is to be carried out for about a month, then the materials are to be sent to the prosecutor’s office, and then this agency is to forward the results of the investigation to the Latvian side,” the Internal Affairs department representative said.

The agency of inquiry of Internal Affairs department of Minsk City Executive Committee refused to reveal the details of this case’s investigation, referring to the secret of investigation, adding that “it is a high-profile case that certainly makes the investigation harder”. The investigation department specified that the criminal action against R. Smits is at the stage of investigation’s beginning”.
