Latvian Embassy to Belarus refutes BT 16:53, 04/08/2006
The Embassy of Latvia to Belarus claims Belarusians have no problems getting Latvian visas. This statement was spread as a commentary on the information about numerous refusals, which was given in the programme “Panorama” broadcast on August 3. According to the author of the news report, this is the way Latvia “takes revenge” over common Belarusians for the “complete flop on the diplomatic stage”.
The Latvian Embassy reminds in the statement that the visa is free for the Belarusian people since June 21. Since that day till August 5 the Embassy has given 5 131 visas, where refusals have made only 0.8 per cent. “In this situation the statistics refutes obviously the information about mass refusals,” - is said the statement.
It is also emphasized in the statement that the Latvian Embassy personnel “work overtime to accept papers and give visas efficiently”, and that there is no queue mentioned in the programme “Panorama”.
