Trial Over Russian Activists Adjourned Without Day :: Charter'97 :: News

Activists of Petersburg branch of Yabloko party Alexander Shurshev and Gulom Bazarov, detained near the Belarusian consulate yesterday, and taken to the police department number 76, were released on the same day, after they signed a written undertaking to appear in court today. As a correspondent of Fontanka.ru was told by Alexander Shurshev, the trial over the participants of the protest hadn’t taken place because the judge was on holiday. Besides, policemen hadn’t presented necessary documents to the court.

“When we were detained, Ruslan Linkov and Yuliy Rybakov (a former deputy of the State Duma) came to the police department, and demanded our release, referring to the related articles of the Constitution and Russian laws,” Shurshev said.

Yesterday about 15 protesters, including Yabloko, the Republican Party of Russia and the Oborona one activists, gathered near the Belarusian consulate in St. Petersburg. The protest in the form of flash-mob in support of the Russian citizens Nikolay Zboroshenko and Ekaterina Vinokurova, detained in Belarus.

They have tied copies of Zboroshenko and Vinokurova’s letter and a slogan “Away with the gang in a sister country!” to doors and closed windows of the Consulate with the help of jeans ribbons. When the activists started to disband, a police car arrived. Policemen checked their documents, tore off a poster and detained two activists,
Gulom Bozarov and Alexander Shurshev.
