Political Prisoner Tsimafei Dranchuk Turns 25 12:15, 07/08/2006
On August 5 an activist of the civil initiative of elections observation “Partnerstva” (Partnership) Tsimafei Dranchuk turned 25. A day before the court of Tsentralny district of Minsk sentenced Tsimafei to a year of imprisonment in a minimum security colony, for violation of a political article of the Criminal Code, “actions on behalf of an unregistered organization”.
On Tsimafei Dranchuk’s birthday young activists of resistance movement “Bunt” carried out a rally of support. They formed a live chain with his portraits near the Trading house in Nyamiha Street. The passers-by came to them and wanted to know more about the situation.
“We explained that it was Tsimafei Dranchuk’s birthday, and he has to celebrate it in prison,” one of the organizers of the rally, a member of the UCP Political council and the chairman of the Young Democrats Kiryl Ihnatsik told. “He was imprisoned in 25 only for his active citizenship, and because he wanted fair presidential elections in Belarus”.
