Public Demands to Blacklist Judge Yasinovich and Prosecutor Migun
16:19, 07/08/2006

Estonian youth organization “Open Republic” has addressed Estonian Prime Minster Andrus Ansip with a proposal to condemn the politically motivated trial over Partnerstva, and expand the list of Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s regime for whom entry to Estonia is banned. Young people demand to put judge Leanid Yasinovich and prosecutor Andrei Migun on a blacklist.

Tow out of the four condemned public activists, Mikalay Astrejka and Enira Branitskaya, visited Estonia last year on the invitation at the association “Open Republic”. In this connection the leadership of the organization constantly informed the authorities of their country about the developments in Belarus after detention of the activists in February this year.

Besides, as the Estonian organization underlines, at least three members of Partnerstva, who previously visited Estonia, fell victims of the total lawlessness of Belarusian secret services. For instance, during a search of a young activist who had been taking part in the local elections in Estonia, the KGB confiscated three books of Doctor of history Mart Laar on the struggle of Estonians for independence, calling them “illegal literature”, the letter of the Open Republic to the government underlines. It is worth mentioning that Mart Laar has been Prime Minister of Estonia twice.

The Open Republic is one of the founders of the group of Estonian public associations for support of Belarus. Its activists are always informing the public and authorities on situation in Belarus, and develop cooperation with democratic forces in the country. In April this year on the initiative of civil associations, Estonian government decided to grant scholarships for studies in any Estonian university to ten Belarusian students expelled from Belarusian universities on political grounds. It is expected that most of those students would start studies in autumn.
