Russian Activist Deported From Belarus 18:18, 07/08/2006
On August 5 at about 12.30 a.m. one of the participanst of the protest near the Russian Embassy in Minsk on July 22, Viktar Simanovich, was released from the remand prison in Akrestsin Street. On July 26 he was sentenced by the court of Tsentralny district of Minsk for 10 days of administrative arrest. On August 4 a citizen of Russia Ekaterina Vinokurova was released from the special detention center. She was detained during the same protest on July 22 and sentenced by the court of Tsentralny district of Minsk to 10 days of administrative arrest. Right after the release the activist was deported from Belarus.
Only a Russian citizen Nikolai Zboroshenko continues to serve the sentence for that protest.
On July 22, two activists of Russian youth organization “Oborona” Nikolay Zboroshenko and Ekaterina Vinokurova, and one Belarusian citizen were detained near the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Minsk. Picketers tried to unfurl streamers with the words: “Russia without Putin, Belarus without Lukashenka”. They also scanned slogans against the informal summit of the CIS in Moscow and the policies of Minsk and Moscow. The activists were detained by Minsk policemen and taken to the police department of Tsentralny district of Minsk.
