On August 9 a renowned active member of Belarusian emigration, a doctor of history, a political analyst, writer and essay writer Jan Zaprudnik turns 80. The organizational committee and press center of the Charter’97 congratulates Jan Zaprudnik on the date and wish him happiness, health, inspiration and further creative work for the good of native Belarus.
Jan Zaprudnik was born on August 9, 1926 in Mir, Navahradak district. In 1942-1944 attended two high schools in Baranavichy. He left Belarus in 1944. He took part in Belarusian scouts movement. In 1948-1950 he worked in mines in Great Britain. He graduated from the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium) in 1954, and obtained a doctorate in history from New York University in 1969. His work was called “Political struggle for Belarus in Tsarist State Duma. 1906-1917”. He worked for the Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty Belarus Service (1070-1991) as an editor, was an editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Belarus”. His major publications include "Belarus: At A Crossroads In History" and "A Historical Dictionary Of Belarus".
Janka Zaprudnik is a member of the presidium of the council of the Belarusian People’s Republic, a member of the Belarusian-American Association, the Belarusian Institute of Arts and Sciences in New York, P. Krecheuski Foundation, the International Association of Belarusian studies, Association of American Slavists, the Ukrainian Academy of Science in New York.
