Young Activist Fined In Baranavichy

On August 10 the court of Baranavichy district and Baranavichy, fined a young activists Yuliya Kharkevich 20 basic units (620 thousand BYR, or $288). The girl was charged with violation of the article 167 of the Administrative Code – “holding unsanctioned protest”.

Nikolay Zboroshenko: “Belarusian Regime Fears Everything”

An activist of Russian youth movement Oborona Nikolay Zboroshenko has been released today from Minsk remand prison. In an hour after release Nikolay Zboroshenko was deported from Belarus. The Russian citizen was denied entry to Belarus for 5 years. “I am extremely surprised. I thought that I would be prohibited to enter Belarus for a year. I cannot think of explanations of that. It must be fear,” an activist of Oborona told in an interview to the Charter’97 before deportation.

Latvian Foreign Ministry: Belarusian Authorities Forged a Case of Latvian Diplomat

The Foreign Ministry of Latvia refutes the statement of the Belarusian foreign ministry that “Belarusian policemen haven’t done anything against the law and haven’t violated international law relating Latvian diplomat”. In an interview to the German agency "Deutsche Presse-Agentur" (DPA) the head of the Lithuanian Foreign ministry Diana Eglite stated that charges presented by Minsk are incorrect. For instance, the statement that Reimo Smits had failed to conclude any rent contract for the apartment as a residence of a diplomat. “The rent contract had been concluded in line with all administrative requirements,” Diana Eglite said.

Belarusian Military Afraid of American Planes?

Air Defence of Belarus can destroy any currently existing targets, the Belarusian Air Force Commander Lieutenant General Aleh Paferau said, drawing the result of field firing at Russian training area “Ashuluk”. The commander noted that Belarusian military want to improve air defence in order to fight with air targets”. “The US is modernizing F-22 aircraft, and we would like to have a possibility to withstand it,” the commander said.

Nikolay Zboroshenko to be deported from Belarus in a few hours

An activists of Oborona movement (Russia) Nikolay Zboroshenko to be released from Minsk remand prison in Akrestsin Street at 5 p.m. In an hour, at 6.12 p.m. he is to leave for Moscow on a train number 26 Minsk-Moscow, the Charter’97 press center was informed by a young activist Krystsina Shatsikava.

Authorities Have Brought Entrepreneur to Disability

Health professionals said to the entrepreneur Lubou Razanovich, who had been taking part in the hunger strike of protest in Brest, that she would be registered as a disabled person because of her state of health. Lubou Razanovich was on hunger strike from July 5 to August 7. She refused to drink liquids for the last 8 days.

Iranian Ambassador in Belarus in his interview to Iranian news agency IRNA has informed that Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is set to visit Belarus in the near future. As said by Iranian diplomat, Belarus and Iran together “oppose monopoly of industrial countries and have common approach to industrial development of independent countries”.

Astrejka and Dranchuk to be Transferred to Valadarski St. Prison

Activists of the civil inititave “Partnerstva” Mikalay Astrejka and Tsimafei Dranchuk are to be transferred from a remand prison of the KGB (State Security Committee) to the pre-trial detention center in Valadarski Street. The political prisoners are to stay in the remand prison until lawyers would appeal from the judgement in higher authorities. Then Mikalay Astrejka and Tsimafei Dranchuk would have to serve the sentence in a minimum security colony.

Prosecutor’s Office Afraid of Future Trials

A political prisoner, former candidate for presidency Alyaksandr Kazulin was delivered an answer of Minsk prosecutor Mikalay Kulik about an order to dismiss criminal complaint. It was stated in the letter that institution of criminal proceeding on statements of Kazulin sent to the prosecutor’s office earlier, is denied. The politician had informed the prosecutor’s office about illegal actions of special units’ officers during the events in the run-up to the elections, and demanded to take measures of procuracy supervision relating these facts.
