Polish Foreign Ministry Condemns verdict to Partnerstva Activsists 13:13, 11/08/2006
On August 10 the Foreign Ministry of Poland voiced condemned the verdict passed to the activists of the NGO Partnerstva (“Partnership”).
The verdict was called “a result of political decision” and an example of harsh limitation of the freedom of social activity”. “It’s continuation of the policy we have been calling upon the Belarusian regime to stop many times. We demand to annul all politically motivated sentences, and to release arrested democratic oppositionists,” the statement of the Polish Foreign Ministry reads.
On August 4 the court of Tsentralny district of Minsk passed a verdict to the four Partnerstva activists. Mikalay Astrejka was sentenced to 2 years in a minimum-security correctional labour facility, Tsimafei Dranchuk to one year of minimum-security correctional labour facility, Alyaksandr Shalajka and Enira Branitskaya to 6 months of imprisonment.
