Case Filed Against Newspaper of Oppositional Communists 12:13, 29/08/2006
The assault on the Party of Communists of Belarus goes on from all directions. As the Charter’97 press center has found out, a suit of defense of honour and dignity against the newspaper of the Party, “Tovarisch”, has been filed. The case has been filed by a chairman of the association “Stolichnoe taxi” Ihar Verkhavets. The newspaper and a trade union activist Pavel Paddubski are to be a defendant in the court. He has told to the newspaper about the problems of Minsk taxi drivers many of whom can lose their job in the near future.
Since January 1, 2007 taxi drivers would not be allowed to work on the cars manufactures more than 10 years ago. And now taxi drivers cannot change their working place. Paddubski believes that in this way the association “Stolichnoe taxi” fights competitors. The chairman of the association founds this statement insulting and demands 30 million rubles of compensation.
As we have informed, on August 25 Justice Ministry issued a written warning to the Party of Communists of Belarus for untimely providing of information on the 10th extraordinary congress of the party held on July 15, and the number of the party members. 10 days ago Minsk city authorities announced that all organizational structures of the party of Communists of Belarus in the capital exist illegally.
