Deputy Ales Chyhir’s Arm Injured During Arrest 16:05, 31/08/2006
During the detention of a deputy of Babrujsk city council Ales Chyhir his arm was injured by policemen, the Charter’97 press center was informed by a photo reporter of the newspaper “Nasha Niva” Yuliya Darashkevich. She and other journalists have been detained during the protest in Babrujsk today. As said by the reporter, Chyhir was detained in an extremely harsh way, and his arm was possibly dislocated.
As we have informed, on August 31 in the noon Ales Chyhir held a protest in the held a protest in the central square of Babrujsk. He symbolically chained himself to a lamppost, protesting against violations of constitutional norms, in particular, of his right to labour. As said by Chyhir, the educational department of Babrujsk city executive committee hadn’t prolonged a contract with him. Chyhir had been working as a history teacher for 13 years.
