Lithuanian Diplomat’s Death Checking at Final Stage 13:24, 31/08/2006
Major actions for checking the details of the death of a Lithuanian diplomat Vytautas Pociunas, who died on August 23 in Brest, have been completed. As the BELTA was informed by a press service of the republican prosecutor’s office, investigating authorities are still to complete several criminalictic examinations.
The final results of the investigation of circumstances of the Lithuanian diplomat’s death are to be informed in a few weeks, and after that the prosecutor’s office is to give official estimation of the accident.
The press service noted that for today there are no facts placing in question the initial version of the accident.
According to the agreement on legal cooperation between Belarus and Lithuania, while carrying out the investigation representatives of the prosecutor’s office and State Security Ministry of Lithuania are present, the press service of the Belarusian prosecutor’s office added.
As we have informed, on August 23 this year a body of a Lithuania’s State Security Directorate (VSD) officer, an adviser at the Lithuanian consulate general in Hrodna Vytautas Pociunas was found near the Hotel Inturist in Brest. According to the provisional concept, he had fallen out of a ninth-story window. As said by the prosecutor’s office, there are no reasons to call it forcible death.
