A deputy chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front Party Viktar Ivashkevich read an issue of a magazine “Spetsnaz” (Special Task Force) (Number 4, 2006). This magazine is distributed in institutions where internal troops of the Internal Affairs Ministry are trained. An article “We have an honour!” at the 4th page of the magazine provokes much interest.
On September 2-3 young activists in Homel held a rally “Lets’ clean the city of RNE filth”. (RNE – Russian National Unity, a fascist Russian organization). Young people in fact were doing the work of city communal services and police. They were painting off swastikas on the walls and leaflets of extremists. Homel authorities traditionally are paying no attention to activities of fascists in the city.
Last week a meeting of the former candidate for presidency in Belarus, a political prisoner Alyaksandr Kazulin with his lawyers too place in the remand prison of Interior Affairs Department of Minsk city executive committee. As the press service of Kazulin informed, state of health of the political prisoner had deteriorated greatly.
A well-known human rights activist, the head of the legal service of the former candidate for presidency Alyaksandr Kazulin, Aleh Vouchak (Volchek), is detained at Belarusian-Lithuanian border for the second time this week. Border guards have been carrying out a thorough search of his car for three hours. Aleh Vouchak has been subjected to personal search. Two books “Elections of the president in Belarus in 2006. Facts and comments”. A report has been drawn up against him, but Vouchak refused to sign it.
The leader of Belarusian Social Democrats, a political prisoner Mikola Statkevich is transferred to serve the sentence to Pukhavichy district, Minsk region. Previously t labour facility, as his elderly father who needs help lives there. The official reason for transferring him is that the politician is registered in Minsk, and he is to serve the sentence in Minsk region. The political prisoner believes that in reality the authorities are transferring him to Baranavichy to continue provocations against him and send him to prison.
More than 100 young activists have taken part in a flash-mob held in Minsk on September 3. At 4 p.m. young activists gathered near the central entrance in Gorky Park. Public in the park was surprised to see young people simultaneously putting on T-shirts with the words “Big Jeans Festival”. After that activists flocked in small groups and continued to walk in the park, attracting attention of citizens to the upcoming event.
On September 3, when a concert of a Russian pop-singer Oleg Gazmanov “Made in USSR” was to take place in Maladechna, local young activists decided to organize an alternative concert “Made in Belarus!” Several dozens of activists with white-red-white flags gathered on the stairs of Maladechna Palace of Culture. Young people were signing songs of Belarusian performers N.R.M., Ulis, Kasya Kamotskaya and others.
The term of bringing into line with the legislation of constituent documents of political parties and public associations expires on October 28, 2006, the Justice Ministry informs.
On September 1-2 young activists from Barysau (Minsk region) held a number of rallies in the run-up to the upcoming event “Big Jeans Festival”. As we have informed, “Big Jeans Festival” is to take place in Minsk on September 16. At the moment Minsk city executive committee considers the application for holding the festival.
The governmental delegation of Belarus headed by the state secretary of the Security Council Viktar Sheiman makes an official visit in Venezuela. As Interfax was told by the press service of the government, the visit is to last until September 8. First Vice Prime Minister Uladzimir Syamashka is a member of the delegation as well.
Alyaksandr Lukashenka offered Gazprom a difficult alternative: to bring down the gas price or not to sell gas at all. Lukashenka sees his friendship with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez as a solution of the problem of rising gas prices, an internet-source Neftegaz.ru informs.
