Brest: No Belarusian-Language Plays Invited to Belaia Vezha Theatric Festival

The organizers of the 11th festival of theatric plays Belaia Vezha which is to take place in Brest explain their decision to invite only the Russian-language plays from Belarus with the fact that the event is upheld by the regular committee of the union state of Russian and Belarus. Meanwhile, the Belarusian Ministry of Culture has refused to issue any means for this festival for several years already. Besides Russian-language plays dramatic theaters from other countries will also show plays in Polish, Slovak, Persian and Turkish. But not a single play in Belarusian.

On 31 August the deputy of Babruisk City Deputy Soviet, teacher of history Aliaksandr Chyhir chained himself to a lamppost opposite the building of Babruisk City Executive Committee in order to express his protest against his politically motivated dismissal from the school where he used to work. The police detained him and ten journalists from different independent editions.

Information Ministry Refuses to React to Sivakou’s Article

The head of the Legal Department of the Information Ministry Liliya Bogdan refused to comment the article of the former Interior Minister of Belarus Yury Sivakou in the magazine “Spetsnaz”, referring to the fact that she hadn’t read the article. The assistant of the Information Minister Viktar Kazlou in an interview to Deutsche Welle told: “We are not an institution of censorship. The Ministry can use punishments for different violations, for instance, there are technical parameters of this or that edition that cannot be changed. You were speaking about some magazine “Spetsnaz” and an article of some Sivakou. Why should the ministry comment on some article? We are following the observation of the Law on Press. In case judicial agencies would establish that the Law on Press had been violated, we would react”.

Fascists Not Punished Again

The editorial office of the independent newspaper “Vitsebskiy Kurjer” has received an answer from a police department to their application to come and bring to account an author of the letter with fascists’ threats. In the notification signed by the deputy chairman of Kastrychnitski district of Vitsebsk it is stated that “the examination has proved that impossible to find the author of the letter with threats received by you. You will be informed additionally in case the criminals would be found”.

Sivakou: Where Does Hitler Logics?

“What is wrong with the article, where is it contrary to elementary logic? It’s history. Napoleon, Hitler, Stalin, and all others, starting from ancient Chinese philosophers, have a right for analysis, and a right to get their empiric experience. Is it true or not? Am I writing there that we should adopt Hitler’s code or what? I quote Suvorov, Peter the First, and Hitler, and then out of that I formulate what I think relevant,” the former Interior Minister Yury Sivakou said, commenting to Radio Svaboda the fact of publishing an article with quotes of Hitler’s code of officer in the magazine “Spetsnaz”.

BRYU Members Charged with Stealing 700 Mln BYR

A new scandal around the organization which belongs to the Belarusian Republican Youth Union has started. The law-enforcing agencies are interested by the work of an experimental youth association “Palesse” which is submitted to the BRYU. This association is in charge of building elite apartments and offices in Brest and Pinsk. However, “Palesse” failed to finish this construction on time, Radio Svaboda informs.

Belarus to Supply Potassium Fertilizers in Exchange for Oil to Venezuela

Belarus will supply 300,000 tons of potassium fertilizers to Venezuela annually, which would allow our country to occupy 35 per cent of Latin American market of potassium. The contract for supply of those products was signed in Caracas, Venezuela during a visit of Belarusian delegation headed by the Security Council secretary Viktar Shejman.

Sivakou Sued For Hitler’s Ideas’ Propagation

An activist of the Belarusian Popular Front Party Valyantsina Svyatskaya is set to bring a case against the former Interior Minister of Belarus Yury Sivakou (Sivakov). As we have informed, in the magazine “Spetsnaz” of July 2006 an article “About honour” was published. The article was written by the former Interior Minister of Belarus Yury Sivakou, who is suspected by the world community in implication in abductions and assassinations of Belarusian opposition leaders. Sivakou offered readers of the “Spetsnaz” magazine to get acquainted with the code of officer’s honour written by Adolf Hitler.

Today Belarusian Journalists to Be Awarded Dzmitry Zavadski’s Prize

This year the prize of the Russian TV channel ORT for professionalism and courage to be awarded to a correspondent of “Komsomolskaya Pravda v Belorussii” Aleh Ulevich, an editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Nasha Niva” Andrei Dynko and a press photographer Yuliya Darashkevich. At an award-giving ceremony Pavel Sharamet (Sheremet) is to represent the Russian TV channel. “This year is to be the seventh award given by the First channel and the Belarusian Association of Journalists. For the first time an award is given by Dzmitry Zavadski’s foundation established by his relatives and friends,” Pavel Sharamet told in an interview to the Radio Svaboda.
