Are Draftees Killed In Belarusian Army?
18:50, 11/09/2006

A private Alyaksandr Shamryn died after half a year of service in Barysau military baze, Pechy. Parents demand to revise the results of the investigation of their son’s death. They suspect that the officership and the Military prosecutor’s office want t blanket the case.

As the internet-source www.bulletinonline.org informs, Alyaksendr Shamrin was born to a common Krychau family. After graduating from Mahilyou regional lyceum he was enlisted to the army. He was sent to Barysau, to the so-called military baze “Pechy”. On July 16 Alyaksandr with other soldiers painted a box in a storage battery room on the platform at the height of two metres. When his colleagues went away for a smoke break, they heard noise. When they have run back, they saw Shamryn who was lying on the floor unconscious. His nape was cut. An ambulance arrived, the young man was taken to a hospital and then to intensive care.

Alyaksandr’s parents were informed about the accident only in the evening. On the next day they came to the hospital. It was almost impossible to find out anything about the health of their son. Doctors were reluctant to say anything, the parents were not allowed into the ward of their son. And only three days later Barysau doctors decided to send Shamryn to Minsk, as they couldn’t render him necessary help.

In Minsk medical personnel kept informing parents about the state of their son’s health. He was treated for eight days. Alyaksandr died on the eleventh day of comatose state.

The soldier was buried in his native town of Krychau. The senior investigator of Barysau prosecutor’s office Ivan Sanko was in charge of his death’s case. The investigation lasted for about two months. His parents haven’t been given any information all this time.

Later Shamryn’s parents were summoned to Barysau commandant’s office as injured persons, and given several volumes of the files of their son’s case.

Having studied the case, parents have found out that the investigation hadn’t studied all versions of the tragedy. There are lots of inaccuracies in the documents. Besides, the medical examination hasn’t mentions traces of unknown character and scratches of the soldier’s face.

The father of the deceased does not exclude that his son had a conflict with so-called bullies, which could be a reason for a cruel row. And officers and prosecutor’s office do not what the death of the soldier to become a story which could be transformed into a criminal case.

Recently Alyaksandr Shamryn applied to suspend Barysau Prosecutor’s office from the investigation and for the case to be controlled at the level of the country. The same request has been prepared for the Defense Minister.
