Fascists Not Punished Again
16:53, 11/09/2006

The editorial office of the independent newspaper “Vitsebskiy Kurjer” has received an answer from a police department to their application to come and bring to account an author of the letter with fascists’ threats. In the notification signed by the deputy chairman of Kastrychnitski district of Vitsebsk it is stated that “the examination has proved that impossible to find the author of the letter with threats received by you. You will be informed additionally in case the criminals would be found”.

As we have informed, on August 10 the newspaper “Vitsebskiy Kurjer” received a letter with threats. Its sender was called “Russian National Unity”.

According to the Belarusian Association of Journalists, the letter with insulting contents had a demand to the newspaper to revise its informational policies within a month, and “stop publications discrediting the current government in Belarus and our first president Alyaksandr Lukashenka, deeply respected by us. He is carrying out an uncompromising, worldwide fight for greatness of Slavonic nations against Jews and Liberals of all kind who want to enslave the great Russian nation”. The letter contained threats “to use all acquaintanceship and recourses in the corridors of power” to close the newspaper as soon as possible.

There was a picture in the letter, representing a young man in uniform with swastika, holding a man with a Star of David on his chest hanging on a rope, with money pouring out of his pockets, in one hand, and a sword in the other. Under the picture it was written: “Let’s Clear Russia!”

It should be noted that in Baranavichy policemen have failed to find persons responsible for threats to the independent newspaper “Intex-press” received by the editorial office on July 18.
