Mahiliou: Authorities Ban Solidarity Day Action Appointed on 16 September 18:31, 13/09/2006

Mahiliou authorities turned down the request of the local democratic activists to authorize a picket dedicated to the Solidarity Day which they intended to hold on 16 September. The leaders of Mahiliou regional branches of the United Civil Party, Belarusian Social-Democratic Hramada and the Party of Communists of Belarus planned to hold the action near the city’s Culture House. 
Babruisk: Activists of Kazulin’s Headquarters File Third Application for Picket in His Support 18:30, 13/09/2006

Activists of the headquarters of the former candidate to presidency Aliaksandr Kazulin have filed the third application for authorization of a picket in his support after two previous applications had been turned down by Babruisk City Executive Committee for different reasons. According to the law, the committee must answer to the applicants on 22 September at latest, on the eve of the official agricultural holiday Dazhynki.

Brest: Four Youngsters Detained for Posting Stickers 18:28, 13/09/2006

In the midnight of 9 September in Brest the police detained Ihar Dzemidovich, Andrei Sharenda and two under-aged persons, Mikhail Iliin and Dzianis Pradun. The youngsters were posting a sticker with invitation to the ‘Large Jeans Feast’ that is to take place in Banhalor Square in Minsk on 16 September. The detainees were taken to Brest Leninski Borough Board of Internal Affairs. 
Poland`s leader to meet with Bush on missile defense 18:24, 13/09/2006

The possibility of Poland serving as hub for a U.S. missile defense project is on the agenda for talks between Polish Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski and President Bush. Kaczynski was opening his Washington visit with a midday luncheon meeting today with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. He planned a midafternoon meeting with Bush at the White House.

Sixteen Belarusian rock acts played a live show at the US ambassador`s residence in Raubichi, a village some 15 kilometers north of Minsk, on Tuesday. The concert featured, among others, the bands Krama, Neuro Dubel, N.R.M., Palats, Suzorye, Ulis, and singer Zmitser Voityushkevich.

Defence Minister Colonel-General Leonid Maltsev said the development of relations with China is one of the priorities of Belarus` foreign policy. In his meeting with Chinese Defence Minister Colonel-General Cao Gangchuan on Wednesday, Maltsev said, "Cooperation with China is one of the priorities of Belarus` foreign policy. Our relations are developing successfully on the base of mutual benefit and mutual respect."

Alyaksandr Lukashenka has commended the high level of relations with China, underlining the role of military-technical cooperation. “We have concluded more than 200, about 210 contracts and agreements with China in the military sphere, and 190 of them are already realized. It’s a great volume, and we have very good perspectives in that,” A. Lukashenka told, meeting a deputy chairman of the Central Military Council, a member of the State Council, Defense Minister of China colonel Cao Gangchuan.

Former political prisoner Alyaksandr Vasilyeu has received back a registered letter from a pre-trial detention center of Interior Affairs Main Directorate of Minsk city executive committee, addressed to the former candidate for presidency Alyaksandr Kazulin. The official motivation of the return of the letter is that “registered letters to Kazulin are forbidden”. By the way, the Sovetsaya Belorussia, an official gazette of the presidential administration, was in the envelope. Even receiving it is forbidden for Kazulin.

Oppositional politician Vyachaslau Siuchyk detained yesterday is in the special remand prison in Akrestsyn Street, the BelaPAN was told by an officer on duty of the remand prison. Mother of the politician, Halina Siuchyk, supposes that her son could have been detained on accusation made against him on May 19. Then V. Siuchyk was found guilty by the Belarusian court in his absence and sentenced to 10 days of arrest.
