Sweden Shows Solidarity with Belarus 16:33, 18/09/2006
On September 16 in the evening in Orebro, Karlskoga and many other cities of Sweden, candles were lit in remembrance of abducted Belarusian politicians, and in support of democracy in Belarus. Members of the Belarusian Popular Front and the United Civil Party participated in the action together with their Swedish partners, the UCP press service informs.
In the run-up to the presidential elections in Sweden representatives of centre-right coalition headed by Moderate Party, youth organizations representatives and common citizens came to express solidarity with Belarus.
Swedish politicians told the people there about the state of democracy in Belarus and developments of relations between the countries, and the Belarusians answered numerous questions.
Fredrik Reinfeldt, who has been declared Prime Minister, was informed about the action.
