Belarusian Embassy Picketed in Washington (Photo) 16:57, 18/09/2006
On September 16, on the 7th anniversary of abduction of opposition leaders Viktar Hanchar and Anatol Krasouski, a rally in support of families of the abducted, political prisoners and all who fight for free Belarus. Members of youth organization “Pohliad”, of the civil association “We Remember”, of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee, students from Belarus who had arrived to the US for studies, the Belarusians living in Washington and US citizens have taken part in the rally.
Participants were holding portraits of abducted people, political prisoners and slogans “Free Belarus”, “Freedom to political prisoners!” and so on. Passers-by asked many questions on political situation in Belarus, political prisoners and abduction to the protesters.
Participants were holding white-red-white flags which formed a bright and eye-catching oasis against the background of still green streets and a discoloured green-red flag on the Belarusian embassy. Cars were giving a honk in support of the protesters. Passers-by could receive information about Belarus and a white-red-white bracelet with the words “Free Belarus”.
