KGB Exerts Pressure on “BPF Youth” Members 12:55, 28/09/2006
On Tuesday, September 26 at 11.40 a.m. a member of the “Belarusian Popular Front Youth” Pavel Krauchanka got a phone call from an unknown person who presented himself a an officer of the State Security Committee. After a short conversation the officer offered Pavel to visit the KGB for a detailed talk.
“That phone conversation demonstrates that an active supervision over the BPF Youth by the KGB has started,” told the chairman of the BPF Youth, a lawyer Ales Kalita. “In fact, an anonymous phone call makes it possible to suspect that it was an attempt to reconnoitre the ground and to recruit undercover agents inside our organization. I would like to state that any attempts of pressure on young activists of the BPF Youth would be considered by me and by the leadership of our organization as attempts against freedom and personal inviolability of our members. In case such actions would repeat, we promise to hold a campaign of pressure on the KGB officers by informing the population about their thoughtless and sometimes illegal activities with the aim to bring up this matter both at the national and international level”.
