Trade Union Leader Undressed at Border

The leader of the Belarusian Radio-electronic Industry Trade Union Alyaksandr Bukhvostay hasn’t managed to arrive to one of Lithuanian health resorts on time. He was on his way to the resort on a bus. At the Belarusian –Lithuanian border he was detained under a pretext of checking where and why he goes, www.praca-by.info reports. A personal search lasted for two hours. The trade union leader even was undressed. It is clear that nothing illegal was found. When policemen let him go without saying any apologies, it turned out that the bus had left.

Zmitser Dashkevich to Announce Hunger Strike, In Case Bible Wouldn’t be Given to Him

On October 4 the court of Leninski district on Minsk dismissed a suit of a chairman of the association “Stolichnoe taxi” Ihar Verkhavets against a newspaper “Tovarisch”. As we have informed, a suit of defense of honour and dignity against the newspaper of the Party of Communists of Belarus, “Tovarisch”, has been filed. The case has been filed by a chairman of the association “Stolichnoe taxi” Ihar Verkhavets. The newspaper told about the problems of Minsk taxi drivers many of whom can lose their job in the near future. In an article “Law of Serfdom” in the newspaper “Tovarisch” it was said that in connection with the decree of Transport Ministry on limiting the age of vehicles used for taxi, drivers cannot leave one employee and go to another. In particular, Verkhavets was insulted by the phrase: “Many taxi drivers think that this situation is to Verkhavets’ benefit”.

Meeting to support New Life church

On September 29, 2006 the authorities transferred to the church’s account money and in 10 days (in accordance with the court’s decision), i.e., after October 8, 2006 Minsk City Executive Council will have the “right” to demand to give up the building. On October 3, 2006 members of New Life church submitted an application to the Minsk City Executive Council to request a permit to have a meeting. It is planned to be held on Saturday, October 21 on Bangalore square from 2 PM till 4.30 PM.

Italian Couple Apologizes to Belarus for Acting Wrongly in Orphan Case

No Room for Free Trade Union

The administration of Belnaftamkhim (Belarusian Oil Chemistry) Concern refused to provide any office room to the primary unit of the Free Trade Union of Belarus that was established by the workers of the open company Polatsk Shklovalakno (Polatsk Fiberglass). According to the present legislation in the case an organization has no office at which its legal address is registered it can’t be registered (if it had no registration before) and in the case it is registered it automatically loses the registration.

Brest: Opposition Asks for Access to TV

An appeal on behalf of Brest branches of the BPF Party, the United Civil Party, the Belarusian Social-democratic Party and the Party of Communists of Belarus has been directed to the chair of the TV and Radio Company Berastse Larysa Dabradomava. Referring to the Constitution, the opposition activists ask the administration of Brest TV and Radio Company to provide them with the possibility to take part in TV programs where important social events are discussed. They believe that their participation in these programs will increase the public interest to the local TV and will help in solving some concrete problems.

Belarusian Language Society Struggles for Teaching of Belarusian History in Belarusian Language

In its letter dated 3 October the administration of the public association Belarusian Language Society proposed to the head of the Government Siarhei Sidorski to set aside the decision of the Education Ministry according to which the Belarusian history and geography was transferred to the Russian language of teaching in the senior forms of general Russian-language schools since 1 September 2006.

Russian Border Guards Support Introduction of Visa Regime between Belarus and Georgia

Zmitser Dashkevich to Stand Trial in Kastrychnitski Court in Minsk

The leader of the Young Front Zmitser Dashkevich is to stand trial in the court of Kastrychnitski district of Minsk, Radio Svaboda informs. Zmitser is charged with participating in activities of an unregistered organization. He faces up to 2 years of imprisonment. Since September 15 Zmitser is kept in custody.

Vice Chairman of the European Parliament Defends Vika Moroz
