No “Union Referendum” Expected This Year? 16:23, 04/10/2006
A referendum on Constitutional act of the “union state” of Belarus and Russia would hardly take place before the end of the year 2006, said a deputy state secretary of the “union state” Syarhei Shukhno. The politician reminded that before the constitutional act would be proposed for a referendum, the document is to be passed at the session of the Supreme state council (SSC). He noted that the draft constitutional act had been considered by the SSC several times, but the decision on it hadn’t been passed.
At the moment the renewed commission for drafting a constitutional act has prepared a variant of a document, however at the session of the SSC planned before the end of 2006, this issue hadn’t been offered for the agenda, the deputy state secretary underlined.
Previously the state secretary of the “union state” Pavel Borodin didn’t excluded that in December this year a referendum on the constitutional act of the “union state” could be held. He noted that issues of the structure of power of the “union state”, delegation of tasks to the one union center, and terms of electing the union parliament are almost ready.
