Are Employees of “Novoe Radio” Strike to Support Fired Director General?
17:06, 06/10/2006

Employees of the radio station of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus “Novoe Radio” announced a strike in a live radio broadcast. It is connected with a possible dismissal of the director general of the unitary enterprise “Novoe Radio” Vikor Grishanov (Viktar Hryshanau). The Charter’97 press center was informed about that by one of the radio station’s employees, who asked not to tell his name. As said by him, yesterday a commission headed by the chairman of the FTUB leaned Kozik visited the radio station. The commission stated that Vikor Grishanov (by the way, a husband of a well-known singer Elena Grishanova) is dismissed.

As said by the radio employee, Viktor Grishanov had fired one of the workers of the radio station, who is a relative of Leanid Kozik. The dismissed worker wrote a complaint against the director general to the leadership of the Federation.

The team of the radio station has decided to stop work protesting against their director general’s dismissal.

“I cannot understand why Grishanov has been discharged. He was a very good director who cared for employees. Many of us have decided to leave the radio in case eh would be fired,” said one of the employees to the Charter’97 press center.

Today in the morning the radio station of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus “Novoe Radio” announced a strike in a live radio broadcast. At about 8 a.m. a music program was interrupted by a statement of the employees of the radio addressed to Alyaksandr Lukashenka. They asked to protect them from arbitrariness of the FTUB leadership.

However, the leadership of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus denies statements about the protest action. They claim that only two radio workers have been trying to announce a strike today morning.

“There is no strike at “Novoe Radio”, a press secretary of the FTUB Iryna Kaganets said. “There were technical problems. An investigation will tell how it could have happened. Such jokes are not exclused. This incident took place because of one of sound engineers’ negligence.”
